In principle, the use of materials is permitted if their technical properties comply with the national standards and regulations laid down in this regard. The national standards and regulations of each country are based on the physical, mechanical and chemical properties of the materials. Today, in addition to the above, environmental sustainability criteria and prevention of damage to nature are also considered as a determining factor in the method of production and use of materials. Physical properties; Mechanical and chemical materials are one of the most basic features that should be considered when using and using materials and based on the time and location of the building. کاربرد درست مصالح در بنا مستلزم شناخت خواص پایه اى آنهاست. در گذشته معماران سنتى ما از ویژگی هاى مواد و مصالحى که به کار می بردند کاملاً مطلع بودند و در شرایط مختلف و کاربرى هاى متفاوت از موادى مناسب کار استفاده می کردند و براساس پایبندى به قوانین صنف معمار خود را متعهد به انجام درست ودقیق ساخت بنا می دانستند. بنابراین اطلاع از مشخصات فنى مصالح اهمیت ویژهاى دارد. اصولاً استفاده از مصالح در صورتى مجاز است که خواص فنى آنها با استانداردها و مقررات ملى، که در این زمینه وضع گردیده، مطابقت نماید. استانداردها و مقررات ملى هرکشورى براساس ویژگی هاى فیزیکى،مکانیکى و شیمیایى مصالح تدوین می شود. امروزه علاوه بر موارد فوق معیارهاى پایدارى محیط زیست و پیشگیرى از آسیب رساندن به طبیعت نیز به عنوان عاملى تعیین کننده درنحوه ى تولید و به کارگیرى مصالح مورد نظر قرارمی گیرند. خواص فیزیکى؛ مکانیکى و شیمیایى مصالح از اساسی ترین ویژگی هایی است که در هنگام به کارگیرى و استفاده از مصالح و براساس موقعیت زمانى و مکانى قرارگیرى بنا باید مورد توجه قرار گیرند.
