Development of Artificial Intelligence in the Construction Industry:A Review of Opportunities and Challenges

Abstract
This paper explores the opportunities and challenges in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) within the construction industry. AI, as a transformative force, is rapidly reshaping various industries, and construction is no exception. This review focuses on the applications of AI throughout the construction industry's lifecycle, encompassing design, construction, operation, and maintenance.
AI offers innovative solutions, enabling enhancements in decision-making and project management, improvements in planning and design processes, automation of activities and robotics, and advancements in quality control and sustainable construction practices. Furthermore, the application of AI in various phases of the project lifecycle, from planning and design to construction, operation, and maintenance, significantly increases the efficiency and effectiveness of this industry.
Despite the extensive opportunities, there are challenges in the path of AI development in the construction industry. These challenges include the fragmented nature of the industry, the need for advanced data management strategies, the gap between academic research and practical application, and the necessity to overcome barriers to AI adoption. To fully leverage the potential of AI, addressing these challenges and aligning AI adoption with the specific needs of the industry is essential.
